Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak To Host Youth For Hope, Action, and Rural Vitality Through Empowerment and Sustainability (Y-HARVEST)

KUCHING, SARAWAK – Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) is set to host the “Youth for Hope, Action, and Rural Vitality through Empowerment and Sustainability” (Y-HARVEST) programme from 19 to 24 February 2024. Set amidst the serene surroundings of Kampung Pichin, Serian, this pioneering initiative aims to empower Sarawak’s youth to catalyze positive change while contributing to sustainable development within the region.

Aligned with Sarawak State’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, Y-HARVEST aims to equip youth with hands-on experience in rural community development projects. The program focuses on fostering leadership, enhancing teamwork, nurturing conflict resolution skills, and building the capacity of young individuals to drive positive change.

“We believe that empowering our youth is crucial for the sustainable development of our communities. Y-HARVEST embodies our commitment to provide opportunities for young individuals to actively contribute to the betterment of society,” said a Spokesman for Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak.

“We are thrilled to launch Y-HARVEST, designed to empower our youth and foster sustainable development within Sarawak,” added and emphasising that “This initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing leaders who will drive positive change and make a lasting impact within our communities.”

The program targets a diverse group comprising 20 youths aged 18-25, encompassing various academic backgrounds from Kuching. Participants will engage in activities centered around paddy harvesting, engaging with the Kampung community, and fostering unity and inclusivity through impactful partnerships with YPS.

YPS is dedicated to ensuring a holistic experience for participants, offering cultural immersion through Bidayuh dance workshops and accommodation in an inspired Bidayuh longhouse. Moreover, participants will actively engage in community impact workshops, serving as facilitators and interacting with school students, aligning with the project’s core objective of giving back to the community.

Integral to the programme’s success is the involvement of Kampung Pichin’s community members, who will host and guide participants in the traditional methods of paddy harvesting.

“We are thrilled to welcome these young minds into our community and share our heritage and knowledge with them,” expressed Mr. Rioi anak Lagit, the village head of Kampung Pichin. “This collaboration will not only empower the participants but also foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for our local culture and practices.”

Throughout the six-day programme, participants will not only be involved in paddy harvesting but also have the unique opportunity to participate in a Bidayuh cultural dance workshop. Accommodation in an inspired Bidayuh longhouse will offer participants a genuine sense of local culture and heritage.
