Catch Up With Jerry Kamit At Unity Concert On Thursday Evening

Kuching, Saturday: Members of the public will be able to catch the glimpse of a home-grown MTV Award winner, Jerry Kamit, at his exclusive performance at the Unity Concert to be held at the Godown Amphitheatre at the Kuching Waterfront on Thursday evening, June 22.

The hour-long show with the theme “Unity Without Borders” is open to the public and will also parade the local Sape evergreen group, Tuku’ Kame’.

Jerry together with Tuku’ Kame’ clinched the prestigious MTV Band Alert and MTV Breakthrough Awards and showcased his remarkable skills at the World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, California, in 2009.

Joined by the 15 “YPS Sape Ambassadors” groomed at the Yayasan Sarawak Perpaduan Sape Camp 2023, they will display their Sape skill and backed by the Perintis Orkestra Tradisi Remaja Sarawak, (POTRES).

Together taking the stage are international Sape artistes including the Lawas-based Nurul Syafiqah Yusop and Seremban-based Indian Sitar maestro, Abishegam Tiyagadass.

A spokesman of the organising committee said the evening Unity Concert, part of the three- day Sape Camp 2023 programme, will feature 14 YPS Sape Ambassadors displaying their Sape musical skills on stage.

“The interesting part of the show is the dressing up of these performers, who will be sporting their traditional costumes while on stage proudly rendering their Sape music,” he added.

The Spokesman said these ambassadors represent the various races, including Indian, Chinese, Kadazandusun, Rungus, Orang Asli, Ibans, Bidayuhs, Punan, Kenyah, Malay, and Melanau, who will render their respective Sape music pieces.

Describing it as a kaleidoscope of united Malaysian youths performing the Sape under one roof, he added that the show is certainly a unique show of unity, displaying the musical creativity of energetic Malaysian youths.

The show will kick off at 7.30 p.m. and is expected to end at 9:00 p.m.
